Science - What is blood?

 Today we began to research in more detail, around what our circulatory system does. Last lesson we had lots of questions about blood, so we began our research here! We learnt that we have three main blood types, but a cow has over 600! We also began to look at the components of our blood. We are researching independently, using a range of secondary sources, and producing a journal style non-chronological report - which we will be completing in our lesson next week!

We also emailed our questions to Adam Kay, author of 'Kay's Anatomy' - our text driver for this unit! We look forward to speaking to him next week.

 Year 6  today  have been learning about musical notes and the beats attached to them. They then looked closely at a small section of Stravinsky’s melody. We clapped out the rhythm (several times - due to some random beats!) and then had a try at playing this section on the xylophones.

South America

 This term the children will be studying South America. Here is a copy of their journey.  During the first part of the lesson, the children recapped the different lines of latitude and longitude they have learnt throughout key stage 2. Then, they compared four different types of maps about South America: relief maps, political maps, tectonic plate maps and language maps.  Finally, the children used their knowledge of longitude and latitude as well as understanding that there is 15 degrees between each line of latitude on a map. Once this was understood, the children identified the latitude and longitude for different places on the world map.
