War Horse

Finally, we managed to find enough time to sit and watch War Horse following our recent work in English. All are completely captured by the movie and are linking the elements we focused on in our writing.

Extreme Earth Assessment

I was really proud of year 6 as they wrote a diary entry about their experience either in a tsunami,or an earthquake. The children used some great geographical vocabulary as well.

Maths- NRich chocolate fractions

Image
On Thursday, Year 6 looked at the NRich chocolate fraction problem, which looks at working out how much each person would receive if they shared the chocolate on their table.  Table 1 had 1 chocolate bar, Table 2 had 2 chocolate bars, Table 3 had 3 chocolate bars. We imagined a child would work in the room and decide where to sit to get the most chocolate. The first person would come in and sit at Table 3 in order to get the most chocolate, the second person would sit at Table 2 and so on.  The children were able to work out complex fractions problems, converting them into improper fractions and being able to compare fractions to see which table would give them the most chocolate.  What a great way to end fractions.

French: lesson 5: Language detective

Year 6 practised their rivers and continent vocabulary. They spent some time looking at paragraphs about rivers and identifying what they already knew. They then read the paragraph, looking for information about the rivers, which they then used to complete a grid.

ENGLISH - To write a recount

Image
Bring our unit on The Piano to a close, Year 6 are working on their final write by recounting a memory. A complete difference to the war and all that writing, they are thinking about the day the man and his wife met. We had some lovely warm, fuzzy-feelings as the children read out their memories in front of the fireplace!

French: lesson 4: using 'en' when writing sentences

Today year 6 revised rivers and continent vocabulary. They then identified in which continent they would find a particular river. They then used a help mat and a given sentence structure to write some sentences, describing rivers and continents.
