Post SATS activities - day 1 - movies and popcorn

 After a great start to SATS week with SPAG and spelling tests under their belts, year 6 chose 2 films to watch - half chose Avatar, while the other half watched Matilda the Musical. We lay on the floor, on tables, had pillows and bean bags and folded up coats to make ourselves comfortable. Hen the films were well under way, out came the popcorn! The Matilda room even had a bit of a sing-song afterwards! 

A great, relaxing afternoon and one that was well deserved!

 Year 6  today  have been learning about musical notes and the beats attached to them. They then looked closely at a small section of Stravinsky’s melody. We clapped out the rhythm (several times - due to some random beats!) and then had a try at playing this section on the xylophones.

South America

 This term the children will be studying South America. Here is a copy of their journey.  During the first part of the lesson, the children recapped the different lines of latitude and longitude they have learnt throughout key stage 2. Then, they compared four different types of maps about South America: relief maps, political maps, tectonic plate maps and language maps.  Finally, the children used their knowledge of longitude and latitude as well as understanding that there is 15 degrees between each line of latitude on a map. Once this was understood, the children identified the latitude and longitude for different places on the world map.
