Maths- place value

LO: I can round numbers to 10 million

This week in Year 6 we have looked to round numbers to 10 million. Before we started on large numbers, we focused on recapping our prior knowledge from Year 5. Both classes came up with a set of rules for rounding and were able to explain it coherently before we began.

The children first looked at thinking about the closest two multiples to that number, then working out if we round up or down. We round down when the digit in the place value column to the right is lower than 5. 5 or above we round up.

We had two days on rounding, with the children improving as the lessons went on. Some of the children went on and tackled problem solving and reasoning questions.

Well done on another great week Year 6.
