French: Lesson 4: writing a paragraph about our school

 

Year 6 sang their song of the half term and revised numbers and the names of places found in a school. They then looked at definite articles and changed them to indefinite articles, in preparation for writing a paragraph about our school. They used a given sentence structure to help them, substituting words which they have recentle learnt.

 Year 6  today  have been learning about musical notes and the beats attached to them. They then looked closely at a small section of Stravinsky’s melody. We clapped out the rhythm (several times - due to some random beats!) and then had a try at playing this section on the xylophones.

South America

 This term the children will be studying South America. Here is a copy of their journey.  During the first part of the lesson, the children recapped the different lines of latitude and longitude they have learnt throughout key stage 2. Then, they compared four different types of maps about South America: relief maps, political maps, tectonic plate maps and language maps.  Finally, the children used their knowledge of longitude and latitude as well as understanding that there is 15 degrees between each line of latitude on a map. Once this was understood, the children identified the latitude and longitude for different places on the world map.
