Hold the Drama - PSHE Musical

 Today Year 6 were privileged to have met The Stripes musical drama group who came in to show them through acting and music that it’s ok to be different and that differences with our friends and peers can be a positive thing.

The group acted out through amazing musicianship how different characters felt when one of the group wanted to do something different to the ‘usual’ things they do. We felt the anger, frustration, sadness and joy through their playing and their actions. 

We had a great Q&A session afterwards and the children gave some great responses and observations. Afterwards,, the children decided to write some reviews of the performance, which we sent to the group to help them reach even more schools.

 Year 6  today  have been learning about musical notes and the beats attached to them. They then looked closely at a small section of Stravinsky’s melody. We clapped out the rhythm (several times - due to some random beats!) and then had a try at playing this section on the xylophones.

South America

 This term the children will be studying South America. Here is a copy of their journey.  During the first part of the lesson, the children recapped the different lines of latitude and longitude they have learnt throughout key stage 2. Then, they compared four different types of maps about South America: relief maps, political maps, tectonic plate maps and language maps.  Finally, the children used their knowledge of longitude and latitude as well as understanding that there is 15 degrees between each line of latitude on a map. Once this was understood, the children identified the latitude and longitude for different places on the world map.
