How can coasts be physically different?

During the lesson the children identified how coasts are different and how they are used. Every coast has its own characteristics. Some are dominated by sand, shingle, mud, boulders cliffs and bays. These physical differences can dictate how the coasts are used. The children looked at pictures of different coasts around the world and identified that they were being used for: residential activities, fishing, tourism, recreation and leisure, ports, marinas and urban activities.

In groups, the children debated how people can benefit from living on a coast as well as the problems living near a coast. Some great discussions.
