What are territories?

Image
Why do we rule over other countries was a question some of the children asked today? The Falkland Islands are governed by the United Kingdom but they are a territory of South America. South America is made up of 12 countries and 2 territories. The other territory is governed by France: French Guyana.  During the lesson, the children labelled the different countries, oceans and seas found in and around South America. They then looked at their flags and a physical feature from each country.  One child brought in some rocks and fossils to share with the class as well. So interesting as some of them were from Canada.

Learning Objective: I can write fractions as decimals and divide whole numbers into decimals  At the beginning of the week, the children looked at how to decimal whole numbers into decimals. We spoke about how to represent whole numbers as tenths and hundredths, such as depicted in the work shown below. We also showed that if we are dividing 4 by 5, we could think about that as a fraction of 4/5. Also this week, the children worked on how to work out how to convert fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions. We spoke about the term equivalent and what this meant and also any known facts.  Well done on another fantastic week of work.

Hold the Drama - PSHE Musical

Today Year 6 were privileged to have met The Stripes musical drama group who came in to show them through acting and music that it’s ok to be different and that differences with our friends and peers can be a positive thing. The group acted out through amazing musicianship how different characters felt when one of the group wanted to do something different to the ‘usual’ things they do. We felt the anger, frustration, sadness and joy through their playing and their actions.  We had a great Q&A session afterwards and the children gave some great responses and observations. Afterwards,, the children decided to write some reviews of the performance, which we sent to the group to help them reach even more schools.
